Rockware Cup (Section 4)
Talbot 3 Lugar 0
With no route through to the quarters Lugar again reshuffled the pack to rest some and try out others and it all went well for most of the first half. The game started at a lively pace but most of the play was confined to the middle of the park as neither team really threatened up front, and both defences coped well with whatever came at them.
Lugar did however survive an early scare when Scott Eaglesham was short with a passback which Neal Gilmour pounced on. Derek Gall saved Lugar’s blushes with a fine save at the feet of the Talbot forward.
Adam Strain takes this one off Stuart Bone’s head.
With time marching on to half time Talbot did break free on the left and sent a speculative ball forward which Gall seemed to favourite to reach first but he hesitated and Gilmour seized his chance. His first attempt was saved by the Lugar keeper but it broke back out to Gilmour who this time lobbed a perfect ball over Gall into the open net despite the best efforts of Mark Doolan to clear.
Half Time Talbot 1 Lugar 0
The second half was much the same as the first with neither team having complete control and chances few and far between.
Lugar watch anxiously as James Leitch’s effort goes over.
Lugar then made a few changes as a couple of players were obviously struggling with niggling injuries and with the opening league game looming it was more important to give the subs a run out.
The changes did however unsettle Lugar and Talbot capitalised with two late goals to run out comfortable winners.
John Boyle makes it two.
Bryan Young’s free kick ends the scoring
