Rockware Cup (Section 4)
Muirkirk 1 Lugar 9
With qualification chances almost negligible the Lugar team underwent a few changes from Wednesday to allow some players to stake a claim for a place in the squad. Muirkirk were still struggling to attract players following their recent heavy defeats but are still upbeat about introducing some newcomers in time for the league kick off.
Unfortunately for the hosts Lugar had their own points to prove, and it only took 15 seconds to show that they were in no mood to be sympathetic as they took the lead straight from the kick-off. The ball was played out to Stephen Auld who was to go on to terrorise the Muirkirk left side throughout the first half, he swung over a perfect cross and Darren McMahon headed home the opener.
Mark Doolan clears upfield.
Six minutes further into the game and McMahon pounced on a loose ball in the box to double the lead.

Trialist Graeme Broadfield, brother of Lugar’s Gary Broadfield, took the lead to 3-0 then 4-0 as he scored in the 14th minute and again in the 20th.
McMahon then completed his hat-trick in 36 before Auld finished off the first half scoring to give Lugar a six nil advantage at the break.

Lugar made a few changes at the break with Michael Thorburn and Craig Doolan replacing Auld and Jamie Ferguson. The score remained at 6-0 for some time thanks mainly to some fine goalkeeping by Scott Chisholm in the Kirky nets.

Michael Thorburn’s goal is ruled offside.

Lugar seemed to be playing at a more relaxed pace and it wasn’t until the 76th minute that they added to the score. Stuart Bone, on as a replacement for Darren McMahon, only a couple of minutes previously, made it seven then got his second in the 85th minute. Muirkirk pulled back a consolation a minute later before Thorburn completed the rout 2 minutes before the final whistle.

We didn’t manage to make it into double figures like the Big Three in the section but we hope there is still some in reserve for the last Rockware Cup game against Talbot on Wednesday evening.
